Do you need to skim the water of a indoor pond?

cant hurt gas exchange but it is not nessisary

although I dont have any problems with plants so I dont need a skimmer always working, I do notice that any stuff at all that lands on the pond will just float there until I use a dip net to get it out with.

It might be nice if one day i got a skinmmer going
