Hi Guys, a week ago I rescued a clown loach from my LFS. He is a nice size but is not well. He is extremly skinny with white horizonal lines on his sides that like almost skelital.

Finding info on this has been harder than I thought, and it seems it could be worms/ other internal paracites/ or bacterial.

He behaves very normally and quickly went from a solo shy loach in the shop to an active hungry fish that schools well with my other clowns.

What action do you think I should take? Please note I am in the Uk so note that if recommending a med.

Cheers
Paul

if he is "active and hungry", then perhaps that is enough for now . . . could be he was stressed and not eating while at the LFS . . .

the #1 concern I always encounter with clown loaches is ich . . . if he doesn't have ich now, it may be that he is recovering from a bout of it while at the LFS, which would explain why he looks sick, even though he is now behaving normally

Thanks Sab, I will just see how it goes. Yeah ich does pop it's head up on occation but it has never really been an issue for me.

Do you have access to levamisole hydrochloride or flubenol, Tango?

Hi Lupin, today I have treated my tank with a med that contains both metro and levamisole as my GT has suspected hexamita. Getting this stuff here in the UK is very hard due to restictions.

Ahh...Hope it will work with levamisole there. Yeah, I figured it is very difficult to obtain some meds there.:( Some people in other forums I frequent had to order their meds outside UK. I am wary about suggesting Waterlife and Interpet meds. These ones contain ingredients that are often lethal to fish.

I would never hesitate to recommend waterlife. The meds Protozin (ich med) and Myxazin (bacterial med) are the best I have ever found. Protozin is so amazing with ich and doesn't hurt clown loach even at double dose.
