Hello!
I've had my L75 since november. He was a teeny, tiny baby then, and now is about 3? inches long (i'm awful with measurements). Anyways, he lives/d in a 55 gallon with a sultan plec (L264) and 3 queen loaches. Until recently there were some danios and cory cats as well. They got moved out a few weeks ago.
Water parameters are all good. I do weekly water changes, etc. Furthermore, the L264 is fine- she is nice and plump, no signs of sunken tummy. However, she is also a lot quieter, at least when I can watch she is.
I have always fed shrimp pellets, algae wafers and occassional frozen bloodworms/brine shrimp. I started feeding more of the frozen and peas a couple weeks ago. (Peas are the only veggie i've found that my fish eat so far. This summer, i'm going to try more options.) I generally feed more at night than in the am, b/c the plecs don't eat much after the lights come on.
So the other night i got a rare look at the L75's stomach (he swims on the back wall when he comes out usually.) And its sunken (still? he was a bit skinny when i bought him). He generally eats plenty, but he swims ALLLLLLLL the time after lights out. It's great fun to watch him do laps of the tank.
This week, he and his tankmates are getting bloodworms EVERY night (one cube for the lot of them) plus some shrimp pellets and algae wafers. I plan to keep feeding frozen (and fresh- if they ever start eating veggies) foods heavily to help appetize and build weight.
I posted about this over at planet catfish, and got a food suggestion (earthworm pellets) and a suggestion that it may be parasites.
So, I'm wondering what anyone thinks of this possibility? I've read as many threads as I can find on the subject, and one person had said that 5 months with a sunken tummy probably wasn't parasites, as the plec should've died by then. And others warned about the med's that were recommend (prazi-pro). etc.
Thus, I am just looking for more opinions before I do anything with this fish as far as meds, etc.
Thanks!
LeeAnna
ps, any treatment would have to wait a bit, as all my tanks are full and thus i can't quarantine him yet. Also, I couldn't tell you what his poo, specifically, looks like, but i havent seen any white, stringy poo.
