skinny orbi

I bought a skinny orb about 2 months ago, and just cannot get her to gain wait. we started her on black worms and quickly move to shrimp and the pellet stuffed shrimp to pellets only . She knows when there is food in the tank. she goes right for it . I'm just kind of stumped. there are 2 other larger motoros in the tank but, shes very competitive at feedings. Any Ideas?

That would lead me to believe internal parasites

I have no experience in diagnosing or treating them so I would highly recommend you talk to a more experienced ray guy before you take any action.

I just went through a battle with internal parasites. People were saying panacur but I coulnt get my hands on it. So I tried garlic which the lfs suggested, after a week or 2 I gave up on that and called national fish pharmaceuticals. They shipped me out sum paraside x stuff which gets put on the food. I never tried prazi because I was told to get something that was inserted directly internal with the food. Needless to say prazipro ended up being the only thing to work. 1 dose of treatment and she started putting wieght back on. So if u think internal parasites, do urself a favor and try prazi first. If it doesn't work it won't do damage.

Most people say parasite to fast

It can take months for rays to gain weight some times even up to 6 months

Just remember rays eat a lot more food than people think

Get a clean up crew and keep putting food in until the ray won't eat anymore daily if the ray is smaller than 8inch feed the same way twice per day morning and night when the lights are out as my rays will eat double the amount at night as they will when the lights are on

aggreed however i always add prazi to my tank when i get a new ray. It has not ill effects so just to be safe... Prazi. I would also look at getting some market shrimp as well. It has alot of protein in it which will bump the ray up in weight then go back to pellets.

skinny orbi update. We put the little orbi thru three rounds of prazi in quarantine. she eats even more now and is gaining wait rapidly . Her tent poles are gone. thanks for the help.

I would probably stick the other 2 motoros through a prazi treatment as well since they were in the same tank. You should always quarantine new rays before adding them to your com just in case they come out with something like parasites.
