I have now had my channa pulchra for 3 weeks he has grown a bit but still looks skinny all head and skinny body . I know he is still a juvenile but should he be this skinny . He eats like a horse and is very active I was thinking internal parasite.I feed him live crickets large meal worms live river shrimp and raw prawns opinions welcome
He does look on the thin side. How long is he? I've only kept pulchra once, and they had very big heads while young, but they grew into them eventually. I would avoid treatment if he's eating well and still active, myself. Maybe feed him more if he's willing to eat. You could give him something to be safe if you are worried.
He's still a nipper then! I would just let it develop and see how he goes. Perhaps up the feeding. I like to feed my channa chopped prawn and mussel meat. They can eat a surprising amount. As long as he isn't sluggish and refusing food.
I feed young channa daily, 1 or 2 feeds, depending if I'm at work or not. I like to see the belly bulge with food, they always look happier to me with a fat belly, they swim around all proud of themselves. Full grown channa I feed 2 or 3 times a week, large feeds, less during winter. My adult auranti will eat 10-15 mediums sized prawns /mussels in one sitting, then retreat to his favourite hiding spot for a while. They don't over eat I find, so if there's food left, you know they are full
great I will up the feeding I know what you mean about being full yesterday I feed him a good size brown cricket and a large meal worm once he ate those he disappeared for the rest of the day
Get a side shot , i would stick with the feeding regime you were using . most people over feed and end up with channa that are way overweight. I bet what you see as skinny is actually just a healthy channa . They are called "snakeheads" for a reason , most I see in tanks look more like sausages lol
managed to get a side shot he has filled out since I started this thread and has grown aswell compared to my bleheri his head realy dose look like a snakes head at the monent I feed every day which I think has upped his growth rate
