Got a channel cat a month or so ago. Anyway the channels were in with some oscars at the LFS and the CC's were pretty terrorized. Anyway I got one and put it in my growout 55 with a couple small severums and a chalceus. Problem is, the cat is always hiding. He's easily the biggest fish and there's nothing in there that can hurt him, but he hides and hides, and if he sees me walk past the tank he freaks. Not that it's hurt his appetite; I've had him about a month and he's grown between 1-2" and gotten much thicker. But I'm hoping he settles down some, I've never had a nervous channel...quite the opposite in fact, they're usually pretty bold.

there always somewhat skittish when i have had them, but the bigger they get and longer you have them they seem to get tame, i had on tell it got 12" and i could hand feed it, when he was little like 4" he would dart all over when he would see me

Ah OK cool. I've always had them already a bit bigger so I'll just look forward to him growing out of it.

i used to have a "blue channel cat" i bought from a petstore(maye it was a blue cat) a about 2 1/2" and had him until it got about 6" and it was always fairly bold and really neat but i recently got an 6 1/2~7" WC channel and he is more of a pussyfish than a catfish, i never see him even at night.

Mine get's pretty active around feeding time, but otherwise is fairly mellow

:iagree:

Mine is also pretty active when he knows there is food comming, but other than that he is pretty mellow. Mine hides out in a large peice of PVC a lot, if I take it out and he has no where to hide, he gets skittish and somewhat aggressive torward the other fish in the tank. Do you have a good hiding spot for it in the tank?

mine hides even when there's food, i've watching him for 10min after dropping food right infront of him in his cave only to see him timidly come over and gently nibble at the food then bolt when i moved a little bit.
