Hi friends,

I recently put up a thread about overstocking my tank with juvies and hand picking them out as they grow. I've done just that and it's refreshing to see actual movement happening in my tank. I'm not saying my fish were always hiding because they did do fish things and were very responsive to the food lady (me.) But when I saw activity happening in my tank it made me realize my dither/target fish aren't exactly doing their job. In fact, they are the most skittish fish in my tank!

I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with Silver Dollar being this way. They are very pretty when they go from one side to the other (and sometimes they swim through the air bubbles which shoots them upwards making my laugh until my sides hurt) but are they truly relieving the tension in my cichlid tank? My shy fish will huddle with them, but god forbid they spook; everyone in the tank wants to know whats up. I've got 8 of these silver dollar just a bit smaller than mini girl palm size.

My question isn't about a cichlid, but it is for cichlid mental health and their tank. I think these little guys are cool, but I want to know if you guys think they are doing their job even if they aren't as active all the time. On the topic, do actually see a difference when using dither/target fish?

I have seen the same thing with my SD's. But my cichlids get used to the spastic SD's lol even when they freak out n almost jump out of the tank. It's completely ok. I have four SD's in my 180 with 20 haitiensis and no problems with my bloat prone haits:)
