I have a 55 w/ 3 EBA’s. It has rocks, driftwood, Amazon swords, and Anubis and Java ferns. LED light is on A timer. Canister filter. A couple years ago a pair spawned a few times. I have their kids in a 29g tank. I used to have gold barbs and sailfin mollies with them. Those fish died over the years. Their only tank mate is a decent-sized pleco. I understand dither fish help calm the EBA’s. I can barely walk in the room with out them banging into the heater and filter intake. About ready to give them away, and get something else. Any thoughts?

Thanks. Think decent-sized danios would work? They are a bit aggressive w/ smaller fish. Had some gold barbs that hung in pretty well.

Check for odd conditions in your tank. These fish are usually not your skittish type. I would suspect a heater malfunction, possibly a crack leaking stray voltage into the water. This could be low enough for you not to feel with your hand but enough to drive your fish nuts. If your heater is particularly old i would maybe replace it just to be safe.

If thats not it maybe check your water several times for an ammonia or nitrite spike. Sometimes if your canister gets really gunked up and filthy you can have problems with bacteria dying off/blooms.

Otherwise if your tank is particularly dirty give it a good water change and cleaning maybe see if that helps.

Added some decent-sized Congo Tetras. Cool fish. Lots of action and eat like crazy. EBA’s seemed to have relaxed a little. Hope it continues. Thanks

I’d like a tank W/ Congo ‘s as the featured fish. They are great. EBA’s are more social. My old man is losing pigment in the back have of his body, sunken belly, still eating, but not looking very good. He’s probably 6 years old. Bummer

They finally spawned again. I thought they ate the eggs. I was treating some BBA with H2O2, and the male drilled the syringe. Looked closer and had a mass of tiny fry. Just curious when they are protecting their young do you guys and gals use the same lighting schedule? Feel like I want to at least keep a light on in the room to aid in protecting the fry. Thanks for any opinions. Sam
