it seems like after i decreased the amount of fish in my tank my gars have become very skittish.
when my barras and wolves were in the tank, the gars were very out going and were never afraid of me.
but after selling them, the gars have become very skittish.
they swim away quickly when im go near the tank.
only at feeding time they become more outgoing.
i even lost one of my larger gars because he crashed and broke his back.
and i had to put him down.
i would have thought that gars would prefer a quiet tank.

man, i dun speak fish, bt maybe after seeing all their pals fo, they kinda got worried that u were gonna sell em too? Besides, i think they'll take awhile to get used to being alone.
The sudden lack of companions must still be a shock.

it depends
my gars when bought at 2-3" (the later ones) were always kept alone and then after they grew a little bigger i tried adding them to the bigger tank where there were more fish and for a few days they freaked out when someone went closer to the tank

its just the change that has made them skittish i guess give it some more time and they might get bolder

could be.
but i thought they would have felt better in a tank with less tankmates.:grinno:
but they are getting lightly less skittish now.

well...thats good. hope u dont suffer anymore losses.

i think another gar might have broken its back...
its not swimming properly but isn turning belly up yet.
still eating well as well.

darn....hard to think that for such mean and tough looking guys....gars can kill themsleves rather easily.

these guys are far from mean and tough.haha.
they will be going to xander on sunday.
meaning no more gars for me.
unless i find a tropical.:D

Hmmm, my gars were never skittish when they were by themselves. They are not skittish now with many large tank mates.

Sorry about the broken back ... at least the aquarium did not break ^^

mayyybe... they felt safer seeing other fish swimming around happily. weird logic, but yknow how some fish show themselves more if you provide more shelter/hiding holes for it? the wolves and barras acting normal [just because] might have made the gars think the environment was safe.
haha. let me know if this is a ridiculous theory.
