my 2 juvenile gator gars have become really skittish in the past week. when i got them they were fine for the first week and now they have become really skittish. they jump and splash around if they just see any one close to the tank.
i am scared they might break their back in the process.
is there something i can do to reduce their skittishness or gator gars are skittish by nature?
thank you

floating plants, less light and no sudden movements work wonders, also, what tankmates would you happen to have? how big are the gar and what's the tanksize? is there a very heavy flowrate on the tank?

there are no tank mates. just the 2 gars in their own 45 gallon grow out. they are juvenile maybe 4-4.5 inches max. the flow rate is not heavy. the water is almost still. using a hob filter so there isnt much movement. they are skittish even if the light is off. i dont turn the lights on if i dont want to see them, the tank gets plenty of natural sunlight.
