hi all...lastnite bot bac 4 chinese hi-fin loach fr LFS due to good offer:D...abt 5'' long...imported fr hong kong juz 3 days oni...body & fins everything looks fine...
so...for sure very happy one coz new collection comin in:grinno:juz put this 4 guys into my monster tank...let'em mix with existing tankmates like sturgeon 9''...albino birchir 6'' & tiger bichir 6''...electric catfish 5''...spoonbill 6'' etc...
when put in time...this 4 fellows behaved very chicken & skittish...d 3 black body banded turn fade & keep bang ard d tank & driftwood:irked:...i tot is normal bcoz new environment...
but bad thing happen after 2 hrs...3 hi-fin died & body banded all gone already:eek:WHY:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

It's my understanding that chinese hi-fin loaches/sharks/minnows are cold-water fish. If you keep your tank above about 75 F (25 C?) it could have stressed them fatally.

Also eventually, the electric catfish is going to shock something that startles it. Those things get huge and very electric.

yup...agree with u...hi-fin r cold water fish...
but this tank got another hi-fin 7'' too...rearing 'em more than 3 mths already...
talking abt electric catfish...this guy never disturb other tankmates since bot him bac 4 mths ago...keep hiding under air-pump oni:)

Well, what is your temperature? In the first place, I do not believe in keeping Chinese hifin banded sharks in captivity at all. These are indeed temperate species which means temperature higher than 72 degrees Fahrenheit is already fatal for these fish, not to mention most of your fish there are tropical. Consider the adult size as well. What size is your tank? Do you have plans to upgrade at all?

Check your temperature. They may also be stressed from the new environment

hey pal...i housing them in 4' x 6' pvc tank with top flow filter system...water temp is 27'c:)even d 7'' hi-fin oso doin well last 3 months...strange:confused:

Water temperature is too warm for these fish. If you have other fish which live in tropical waters, then consider isolating either these ones or the tropical species. You must house them in coldwater tanks with temperature no more than 72 degrees Fahrenheit. 27 degrees Celsius can prove detrimental to the Chinese hifin banded sharks in the long run killing them eventually in the process.
