Hey guys, ive had my toga for About 2 months now hes about 10-15cm and every time i walk near the tank or open the lid he goes crazy jumps out of the water and stresses right out.

My question is do the leichardti ever grow out of this or will he remain skittish there whole life? If not when can i expect him to grow out of this?

Cheers, kna0909.

Arowana's take a decent amount of time to get settled in its new environment. It is a problem faced almost by everyone in the beginning. It will get used to with time. You can put in some black water extract or ketapang(Indian Almond) leaves in the tank. Though it will turn the water brown, but the stress will be much reduced.

I had luck by adding cover (floating plants) and adding tank mates that are not skittish. I also noticed my lei was a lot more skittish when there was a lot of current in the tank. I ended up using a return spout that dumped straight down in to the tank and is seemed to help out a bit.

Oh well my internal filter pumps a fair bit and theres a bit of a current the surface. Hes fine when im sitting on the couch etc but when i open the lid for feeding time he goes crazy! Ill try and redirect the current. Hes currently with a jack that gets startled pretty easy. Might have to find the jack a new home soon, dot want the toga to turn to fish food haha.

In the past I've only kept a single aro per tank and eventually they get use to you. I approach the tank slowly and try and stand there often.

Soon I will be adding an aro to a comm tank and hopefully they don't all get skittish together.

Thank for all the help guys. So would you suggest the aro a tank to himself? And would that make him more aggressive behind solitary?
