My 3 Cichla Ocellaris are a little jumpy ... Every time I walk into the fishroom they scoot behind their piece of driftwood and emerge a minute or two later. I've had them for two months and are 4 inches long living in a 250 Gallon aquarium. Their diet consists of frozen prawn, krill or minnows (once a day) which they devour with reckless abandon. All water parmeters check out fine ... Any ideas as to why they're being so shy ...

add some more fish in there!!!

I agree more fish would spark there intrest to checking things out... Just as long as there none agressive so they dont beat up on your peacocks.... Maybe some Dats ...

Now that 's a good idea. I've been eyeballing a few Dats at my LFS .... I just wasn't sure if they would make good tank mates

Either add some more dither fish, like some cheap tetras that won't get eaten RIGHT away...lol...or move them to a smaller tank till they get some more size on them. Also, more hiding places seem to make fish less skittish. Awesome fish! Love to see pics...;)

I would have agreed with every comment and for most fish it is true but I have a group of fish that are afraid of everything.... I have a group of 30 peacocks that are 3-4" and they are afraid of everything... I have had them in two diff tanks over 6 months I added hidding places I took away hiding places and it didn't matter so I put some 3" green terrors in with them and they started hiding. I finally bought some 7" cichlids 2 male and 3 females (havent figgured out what they are yet) and now they hide. I gave up and have started seperating them into other tanks and they are ok when they are not in a tank together. Sadly they are breeding but I guess I'll have to move them into seperate breeding tanks.

Don't know if this helps but thought I would tell you about it.

Thanks for all the great ideas ... I'm going to add a few more fish to the tank and see what happens. The problem is, I can't decide which fish to add ... So many choices ... So little room ...
