why are my dats so skittish...?
is it because they're only 2.5-4.5"??
or because of tankmates - in this case a geophagus a dwarf gurami and a butterfly ram..??
i have some bogwood and rocks and a plant or two for them to take cover in and around, which they do!, but its p**sing me off a bit now tbh and id like some ideas please...:)

Not sure what kind of dats you have. Have owned NGT, IT and WB's only. My NGT and IT's were always skittish. My indos were skittish from 1inch all the way to 17inch. Most of my indos spent the majority of their time in the back half of the tank no matter the aquascape. My widebars were the least skittish of them by far. I can tap on the glass with my widebar (only dat i have left) kissing the glass and he won't move an inch.

does anybody else want to add anything to this....????

All really depends on the dat. Once it gets comfortable, it will b less skittish. It takes a while tho. Generally, dats like to hide at spot. Overtime, it will get used to recognizing the owner

if you have hiding places they will use them pop in and out

remove the hiding places this will force them to come out

Just be patient, they're wild caught fish, you're a human, they need time to get used to you. Also adding question marks after every question won't make anyone want to respond any faster it just makes you look panicked.

Hahahaha agree the added question marks do nothing.

I really wouldnt worrie. If your doing something wrong with your fish youll get 20 post telling you so. If not that many people are responding than it means your dealing with a very common problem.

Have you gotten your dats to eat?

I have a NTT 7" and it hasent eaten for about two weeks now. Im getting kinda nervious but im listing to everyones advice which is just to stick it out.

Skiddish fish are part of the game. Good luck.
