Hey guys my wide bars are skittish as hell. I've had them for nearly half a year now. They'll come to me and eat when i put food into a certain area of the tank, but if I reach over the top to check my filters or turn on the lights, they just freak and bang into the glass. Their noses are beginning to become damaged. They're about 3 inches and there are 5 of them in my 90. I will upgrade but it seems like its best just to get rid of them because in a 6 ft tank it'll still be the same.. Do you guys have any suggestions to prevent them from hitting the glass so much?

I dont have wide bars but I do have 4 Red Hooks and 1 regular Silver Dollar. In my opinion a larger tank will help somewhat. I have mine in a 120g (60x18x26) They are not bad since my tank is in a high traffic area and they are used to movement back and forth all the time but at times they too freak out. My fish are by no means huge at just 5" each but one thing Ive noticed; these fish need a wider tank. The way the Red Hooks are designed they actually seem to have issues turning around comfortably in the tank. The regular silver dollar acts completely different due to its body design. My fish will soon be moved into a 210g (72x24x29) and I think this will help the fish out to have the extra width for turn around room. Just my theory.

I'm waiting to find a 180 to upgrade to but haven't found one that I like yet. I don't think turning seems to be the issue its more of just hitting the end of the tank. It freaks me out because once they knocked over my heater. I had to move it all the way down to the bottom of the tank to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Plastic plants along sides for buffer has helped my glass bangers
That sounds like a good idea. What kind of plants do you use to cover up the sides though?
