Merry Christmas y'all. My Christmas has been kinda stinky. A month or two ago I had my house painted. The painters left a vent that goes under the house unsecured. Now there is a family of skunks living under there. Christmas eve I caught one near the vent entrance. I was able to scare it away and close the entrance. I know there must be her young under there because I'm still getting random blasts of skunk spray in the house. Yes it is as horrible as it sounds. People have recommended bug foggers to try to flush them out. It didn't work. I really don't want to kill them, but I'm at the end of my rope here. There is a pass through to get under the house, I guess I'll want some kind of respirator mask? Any thoughts?

Wow. Aren’t painters just a bunch of useless dirtbags ? (I am a red seal painter???‍♂️)

what about hiring a professional to trap them and get them out of there? It may cost some money, but at least they know how to bait the little stinkers. If it were any other creature I would suggest doing it yourself, but this seems like a particular skill set that is needed.

often I find myself trying to diy things that in the end it would have been cheaper and less stressful to have just paid someone else to do that job. Lol.

I did call a professional. They want $150 just to show up and point out where they are probably getting in. I already know where. $400 to place/rent 4 humane traps around my house for 2 weeks I believe, obviously no guarantee the traps will catch anything, and $50 per animal caught in the traps!! Way to much money for me.
So I guess right now the plan is to suit up, go under there, and try to persuade them out the vent they enter through. I think I really want some kind of quality respiratory mask. I didn't realize the floor is still a decent barrier against the spray. I caught a tiny amount of spray when I chased the other one away and it was STRONG. I don't think I could take a full hit.

I agree with Matteus Matteus call your local animal warden or if live near woods like I do give the park ranger a call. Hopefully neither one will charge you. Both I mentioned should set a trap or traps for the skunks.

Well originally I did look up animal control, but I keep getting routed to the people who gave me the estimate I mentioned. It seems like the animal control here is just for cats and dogs. I don't think I have a park ranger I can call.

Maybe get your own traps then. And find out what kinds of food would be best to bait them. Then hope that they don’t spray when they get caught.

Yeah I can't find anyone renting them out. Everyone says buy one on azon. I guess skunks like bugs to eat.

There's also a easier way which guarantees the skunks will be gone for good

Lol, worst case scenario, maybe. I think they're cute. I even wanted one as a pet one time. I got a close up of what I think is the mom and tripped out on how clean and beautiful they are. I just got off the phone with a more reasonable trapper. He told me even if I did trap one, it's against the law for me to transport it beyond my property??

Sorry to learn of your smelly situation Rock. There are plenty of skunks around where I work and the seem to enjoy spraying so I can imagine how bad it must be to have to put up with that smell in your home..Just a hint of it blowing in the breeze can give me a headache,it's gotta be the worst stench that God has created....well,next to weed.
