Hi!

New to the forum. Got my 5 inch Jardini 2 and a half weeks ago. Lots have happened already. I feel bad because I should have researched a lot more before I went along with it.
1st week I found out the guy had a nip in the tail...soon it became apparent that it was fin rot....:nilly:
I think I fixed it with maracyn and finally tetracyline.
Also I was being stupid, I bought him some hikari super red pellets and wanted to put him on it. So i stopped feeding him frozen bloodworms, so when it was time he got his fin rot and I was treating him, I wanted him to be strong and healthy, but he refused to eat any of the worms i threw at him.
Now its been 2 weeks. I think I got him to eat both the pellets and bloodworms.
Then today....he didn't eat the pellets I threw at him, odd.

Anyhow, that wasn't the part I was concerned with. Recently for the past 3 days, I noticed that he was swimming kinda on his side or sometimes slanted. He never did this before so I was wondering what is going on.

I feel really bad since I'm doing so much hard to this lil guy. help me out guys!

seems like stressed or some sorta bladder problem, check the water params, lets wait for more opinion

STOP !

Have you checked your water parameters since the tetracycline treatment?
Tetracycline although very good at treating gram + and - infections as well as many other things, it's very hard on your biological filtration. Next time if you have a problem like that, a salt solution of 0.1-0.3% can help heal many problems with your fish. If you have checked your water parameters and everything is ok, keep checking next few days to make sure the water is stable. if not water change, get your water back to good stable conditions asap. No ammonia, no nitrite, low nitrates. Ph 6.0-7.5 is ok for jardini.
A 5 inch jardini or any other arowana SHOULD NOT be starved in any way when they are young. Twice a day feedings. Feed the jardini what it likes. That means crickets, superworms, any other small live food. You can throw in some market prawn /shrimp cut up into small pieces with shell on and tail/head removed as well. When jardini is around the 12" mark you can then try and feed it what you like, because at this stage the arowana should have built up enough body fat to survive off during the switch over to different foods. Doesn't mean you can't feed pellets when it's young, by all means do so, but don't rely on that as sole food source.

So I did check the water parameters. I'm not starving the guy anymore. its eating bloodworms and pellets but it takes the little guy so long to eat it because he's swimming wierd. He usually hides in the corner and when I turn off the air stone and filter, i guess he knows its time to eat but he's swimming on his side. He also spirals when he goes up top. Its really wierd. I'm not sure what's going on.
