Can natural slate tile be used to cover the bottom of my aquarium without messing up the water parameters? Would this affect my flowerhorn in any way? My brother-in-law is a flooring installer and can cut the tiles to fit perfectly inside the tank. I think this would be a good way to add some color to the tank as well as keeping it easy to clean (My tank is currently bare bottom). Would they need to be silicone in?

Cut it down and try it. A lot of people use slate in their aquarium. I'm not sure if it will affect your water parameters at all but if it does it shouldn't much. Be sure to test your water after a few hours just to be safe. I wouldn't bother silicone anything just stack it up and allow your flowerhorn to move around the smaller pieces for him or herself I'm sure they will love it.
