I was looking at salvini cichlids, and their horizontal stripes kinde of reminded me of the flower rows on king kamfa, or any other flower horn for that matter. So my question is could salvini be one of tthe fish, besides the many otheers used to improve/create flowerhorn?

most flowerhorn do NOT have Salvini in them... i think this is because they grow so slowly and dont hybridize as easily as the larger hardier species... i am actually planning on doing a project in the near future to try to develop a "dwarf" flowerhorn using salvini blood... this will hopefully create a fish that has the features of a flowerhorn, but in a smaller adult package for a smaller tank, without stunting or other adverse affects... this will take many generations though!

but back to your question: most flowerhorn dont carry salvini, but it is possible to hybridize them.

Salvini has been crossed into flowerhorn to create an old school yellow KK in Vietnam. Salvini is actually one of the main reason why some Vietnam fish contains such a strong pitch black double row. Fortunately those KK lasted a year only from 2002-2003 and never peaked back into the market. But the flowerline carries on...

interesting... knowledge is power :)

Hey I recently had a male Carpintis breed with a Salvani in one of my Central American tanks.. It was completely by accident.. Im more into big mean fish, but I pulled the eggs just for fun and they hatched. That was about 4 months ago and by now they are only about 1". Super slow growers indeed, but they are coloring up just as you would expect a TexasXSalvani to look (super blue pearly salvani). They are actually really cool! probably not worth much but hey, they are pretty little dwarf things!
