One of my bloodfins happened to jump out of the tank. Not an odd occurence by any account, but it happened about 4 hours after I had turned all the lights off. The water params are perfect and the last water change was about 3 days ago. All the fish were visibly asleep and when I put him back in the tank he swam around a bit and then fell asleep just like all the others. Why would this have happened? Sleep jumping?

Nightmares for sure. Or would it be nightseahorses? Lol I've always (legit) wondered if fish dream...I wonder if my fish legit sleep since they are still swimmin a little when I check up on them in the middle of the night.

It's confirmed. Your fish have nightmares.

deep dude, really deep.
I've had fish freak out in the middle of the night once or twice (that I know of) in several decades. I've had a parrot do it also.

What an ironic thread!! Last night at about 2:00 A.M. my senegal bichir decided to take a leap of faith right out the frontside of the tank. The slamming of the lid back down woke me up and i wasn't sure what was going on until i heard him wiggling around at the foot of my bed. Was it a bad dream???? the world may never know, but at least i was there and scooped him up and back into the tank within 30 seconds. I guess i have to start placing rocks on my lids.

Yeah it was kinda odd. Maybe he was hungry cuz he landed right in the bowl of flakes. For once my habit of staying up late has done some good.
