Is it normal for an african brown knife to rest on the bottom of the tank?
I have occasionally noticed mine on the bottom in his hideout the base of his body and tail on the gravel . he is maintaining a normal profile but only his gills appear to be moving .
does anyone else have a knife that does this?

My BGK lays on his side under a piece of wood all the time.

Yes its normal. Knife fish are very efficient in their energy spending. They often find ways to rest and conserve energy. That also means he is getting comfortable in the tank.

:iagree:

The first time I saw my BGK laying upside down in his 'log' I thought he was dead.
I banged on the tank and nearly scared him to death :)

It is amazing to watch them - awake or asleep.
