I had a thought of minimizing the amount of substrate required, by using one of the slim rock backgrounds on bottom of tank.
don't know if it'd "work". but ppl use tiles for a type of barebottom for staying cleaner. the weight & less natural look is not really my taste for this tank.
I wonder if that'd look cool combined with an amazonian root BG on the back wall?
then for fish habitat's sake, some real shallow sand. which, if the tank bottom showed sometimes, would still look very natural- not BARE.
If the inhabitants didn't need sand, it'd be as easy to keep clean as a bare bottom.
?? what you guys think?

I'm going to do that. I have a 15' x 4' rocky background going on the floor of my tank. It's still rolled up in the box because we're not ready to put it in the tank.

Yippeeee! If pacu mom is doing it, I feel almost like a genius! You're the Tank Maker Queen!...............
[and I'm a driveling noob]

I think it's a great idea, much better than using tiles for that natural look. Make sure to post pics when it done.
