slow breathing?

I have a question. I did read the topic about rapid breathing...my bichirs are completly the opposite. Their gills do move only from time to time. Sometimes only one time in a minute. I see them very rarely gulp air. They are pretty active and act all fine. But should i worry or is that ok?

How long have you had them?.I'm just assuming if they've been doing it since you had them I wouldn't worry not unless they start showing signs of distress.

some of them since years. I guess there oxygen level is pretty high. they are always very calm and relaxed

Erm so are they suppose to breath like once every minute or once every second or whats the healthy rate? Tho mine are eating well but the breathing is making me so worried right now.

I think the slower they breath the more relaxed they are.

That doesn´t mean they aren´t relaxed. I think it depends on so many factors. Low oxygen, stress, high activity and so on

alot of mine go up to the surface for air, im glad they feel comfortable enough to do that

slow breathing is a good sign as long as it is not stemming from poo water or disease. Rapid breathing and you would have a problem.

Do they have external gills still? If they do, it's normal to rarely see gulping air.
