slow growing gator

we've had the gator for about 6 or 7 weeks now, and he doesnt seem to have grown noticeably at all in that time, he's still around the 14-15" mark we purchased him at, but fatter.
Could it be due to him being kept in bad conditions or stunted previously? The other fish in the tank seem to be growing ok, and the RTC in the same tank has grown 5 inches in the same time period.
How long should it take to start growing again?

around that siza, gators tend to not grow so much in length at that size, but more in girth(like you said) however, in 6-7 weeks if there's no growth, the gar's probably stunted. what're water parimeters, and how often does he eat?

havn't got any test kits at the moment so i'll test when i get some more but water parameters are usually good, he eats once a day, i'd guess he eats from 50 - 100 grams a day, more than any other fish in the tank, diet consists mainly of silversides, prawns, cut fish fillets, and sometimes cockles and mussels

this is generally not the case if the fish has been well fed...gators will continue to grow steadily if they are fed large portions, so it really hinges on feeding.

i doubt there is serious stunting with the fish at this point, so if heavy feedings and water changes were used, it would start growing relatively rapidly again.--

yea my gator gar grew 8 inchs in a montyh then just sl;owed down darstically he is at the 14 inch mark now and mine is well fed also and water conditions are all perfect
