What is the slowest growing, and how fast would he be growing monthly? Start him in a 75g, feeding shrimp pelets, krill and Omega 1 flakes? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Well I'll comment on silver aros, mine grew from 3.5" to 14" in a year it was in a 55 gallon for 6months and then a 75 gallon for 6 months. This growth rate was more on the slow side. There is another member here, She had her silver in a 55 gallon and it grew from 6" to 16" in less than 5 months. As you can see the growth rates vary. You can start of in a 75g but better have a bigger tank ready in about 6 months.

And remember, keep up on those water changes:grinno:

.

I didn't know there was a slow growing Arow :)

my baby silver jumped from 4" to about 18" in a year. but i think the jars are one of the slower growing aros in the trade.

all aro's grow about the same rate

why are you looking for the slowest growing aro?

is it so you can have it hold out in a 75 till you get a bigger tank?

now if thats the case, all aro's will outgrow a 75 very quickly, best have patience. shoot for at least a 180 or the desired tank size then get the fish.

we have a jar in a 200 gallon show tank.. he was put into the tank at about 3-4 inches. its been about 1-3 months and hes up to about 5-6 inches. so about an inch a month .. and hes getting some red coloring from the krill...

That sounds good. I'm only 15, but turning 16 in 3 months and I will be getting a job at a LFS when I'm 16. It will be soon though. I'm friends with the owners son, and I get to take a test about fish, and if I get a 70 of 100, I start at 9.00 an hour and 2% commision and straight to sales. Plus, 35% off anything in the store!
:headbang2  The point of that little paragraph was to say I'm gonna get an Arowana as soon as I get a job.

Blacks do grow slower. I'm sure there is an exception to that rule but IME and from what I've read they do in fact grow more slowly.

Other than that, I agree.

Are they really becoming rarer or is that just talk?

you have to take a test?... thats silly.. if you do i also recommend you talk to the owner about how much you would enjoy this job and how much you have to give.. they will like that better but shoot .. youd be making more than me >.< and i do everything in the shop oh and brush up on your plumbing and retrofitting skills.. that will come in handy :].. good luck
