I have neither fish ,nor do I have much intention of either ,however I do have a question.

Is there any way to slow the growth of an arowana/arapaima ?? I know first hand how fast these fish can grow ,and I was wondering if people have found a way to slow growth without any harm to the fish ??

Cooler water ,feeding less often ,feeding certain foods ,etc ??

I've heard that arapaimas grow like crazy but there's an LFS here that has 2 arapaimas that have stayed for 12" and 10" for as far as I can remember. I think they are feeding them so much less to stop them from growing.

By slowing the natural growth rate you are prohibiting normal healthy development. At some point, it will mess them up and they will die an early death.

Anytime we mess with our fish for a "stunt" like this, they are sure to reward us with a corpse. :irked:

This is a great idea. I wonder if I feed my kids or dog less, they will not grow up as quick. I swear the threads on this website get more absurd as the days pass. Good luck to the OP

Thanks for the positive reception guys !! So awesome !!

Also I have no intentions of getting other either of these fish. I keep discus and saltwater. No place for one of the monsters in question.

As well ,take note of the topic. I was asking "without harming the fish". I know starving discus will give them a longer (wrong) body shape as they grow ,which is crappy. I would never want to screw up a fish like that.

So pretty much it sounds like anyone who trys to grow a fish slowly is an *** ,and that is that. Correct ??

sorry for saying this but we all want them to have normal growth rate and healthy, so if someone can't do this, that meant these type of fish are not right for them to keep.
