I just set up a 180 bow front & the output that feeds water from the tank to the sump is slurping loudly. It is just the 1.5" PVC pipe. Is there a good cover made that would help stop the slurping?

I have the same issue with one of my returns. The return probably has a siphon break hole drilled in it and that's forcing water out. Try filling the tank a little more to see if that solves the problem. I've just learned to live with it

Pics would help. Generally returns are outputs and drains feed the sump. Usually extending the plumbing below the water line going in the sump will quiet the drain.

Sounds like it's the input of the drain. Dursos can quiet things a little. Herbies and Beananimals completely silence the drain lines but require emergency drain lines.

Post some pics and we ll get it figured out.

So the water is going down into the sump from here & you can see the whirlpool effect that's causing the excessively load slurping noise.

Yup. A downturned 90 with a tiny hole drilled in the top (Durso) will quiet things considerably. Start with the smallest hole possible and work up from there.

Here's a pic of my open channel line on my bean setup which is very similar to how a Durso works.

You can also put a fitting on the PVC like a coupling assuming your tank is level it will level out your pipe and you should have much less noise. I think anyway. It worked for me.

Is this in an overflow box or in the main tank itself? If it's the main tank, you're going to have to lower the water level to make a Durso work. And they won't give you a surface skimming effect either unless you have the Durso in an overflow box designed to skim from the top.

You can make a Durso work in a display but, as I think you are saying, it will dictate the display water level if setup properly. Open standpipe in the display will do the same unless you run a full siphon drain. Fully submerged full siphons are different animals.

Agreed on surface skimming. The only Dursos I run are inside overflows (internal) so the water falls I yo the box and is then drained through a Durso.

Herbies and Beans are far quieter but involve more plumbing.

So if I screw a hole in the downturned 90 how big should I go? It needs to be big enough to put a plastic tube in it, correct? I assume the plastic tube is there to catch water which flows strong enough that some escapes through the hole...???
