Hi i have a small 5.5 gallon tank that i need to keep around 65 degrees, ideally no higher. All the small chillers ive seen is just a fan blowing on the water on top, does that really do anything? i live in SC so my house can get pretty hot during the summer. So are their any small ones that dont cost over 150$ that I can set the temp? I couldnt find any.

Fans may knock off a few degrees off your room temp, but dont expect much from it...

Most stores i've seen over here use the smallest chillers they can find on their small tanks if they require a certain temp, i.e outside temp is 30'c but they need their tanks at 18'c

Yea i figured they wouldnt do very much. I may have to just make my own.

Don't under estimate the fan. It will drop the temp in a tank really good. I have done it and been suprised but that was when the tank was really warm and wanted it a bit cooler. Try it if you have a fan around.

This will sound silly, but you could use a small pump and run a circulation line through a dorm fridg. You could use a line like for a icemaker and the little gate valve that comes with the kit to regulate flow. Use a small powerhead for the pump and put a sponge filter on it.

Just add beer!

Il look into it if i can find a cheap used one but still looks to be cheaper to make one. Thank you for all the input!

What are you trying to keep in 5.5g tank that needs to be at 65F. Is this just for short term or long term. I think those heatsink fan chiller only drop a few degrees below ambient. So if your room is in the 80's its not going to drop it to 65.
You could float cold packs keep a bunch of them in the freezer and rotate them to the tank.

long term. Its for t.cancriformis when i lived in Michigan i used to have the tank in the basement witch was always freezing but now that i moved i need to chill the tank.
