small black bugs in canister filters??

Can anyone clue me in on what the little black bugs are I just found in all three of my canister filters? (2 different tanks)

They are alive, and about the size of a pin head. It looks like the came out of all these little white "shells" also in the filter. I also notice alot of these "white shells" when I gravel vac the substrate.(I thought it was clown loach poop!) I've been cleaning the filters for years never seen this before?????

snails! They live inside filters. I flush them all out with salt if its safe for your tank and fish...

Bladder snails move fast. Do these "bugs" glide or swim?
