So I was thinking about it tonight and it'd be nice to add alittle variety into my 125 SA "community" tank. Current stock is:

1 super red severum (4-5 in)
1 heros efasciatus (4 in)
12 geophagus sp. redhead tapajo (2-3 in)
13 lemon tetra
6 Denison barbs
1 bristle nose pleco

Not planning on keeping all the geos, just got a good deal on them and growing them out. First and primary question though is about mixing geophagus sp.
A) With out any other changes, how many of the tapajos do you think I should keep?
B) If I was to drop a few extra what other geophagus sp. would y'all recommend (I've grown fond of the brasiliensis but know little about them, also the jurupari look nice).

I know this is long but if y'all could bare it out... Next up is the Denison barbs. I love them, I really do, but I also like the idea of it actually being a SA tank. "Head standers" seem similar is body structure but I'm wondering if they'll provide the same amount of activity? Any other recommendations?

Finally, the lemon tetras. They just kinda sit in the corner. It's where more of the twigs are so maybe it's just a cover thing, but I was hoping for more movement out of the school. Any recommendations on replacements or try a tank rearrange? Wife saw some diamond tetras she seemed to like the look of.

Again I know it was long but thanks to those who took the time to read, I look forward to y'all's input!!

I would just keep all the Geos and add some Brasiliensis if u like them.... I sure do. Redhump are cool too, so is altifrons and Gymnogeophagus balzanii. Caan't really offer much help other than those few species, I never kept anything else you have in there.

Brasiliensis would likely destroy your Geos. They are far more aggressive than other geos.

I agree with Darth, braziliesus do not really belong with the other Geos you are keeping. The braziliensus group are much more aggressive, although as they grew, would probably take care of your lemon tetra problem, and in time, your dennison barbs too.

I've heard head standers don't really work with each other. To answer your question they are very active, interesting fish. I have 1 in my 75, I don't know how you'd do with a group.

I feel like I am on the only one that beats this drum, but for SA tetras I like Buenos Aires tetras. I have a group of 10 in my 210 and they are interesting and tenacious. I temporarily have a 4-5" Oscar and a 4-5" Texas cichlid in a tank with them and they will go right up and battle the big guys for food.

It's funny seeing them grab a massive pellet and run. They carry it until they can eat the whole thing.

Last time I had buenos aires tetras they were pretty nippy.

I can vouche for diamond tetras being an interesting choice for a schooling fish. Got a school of 10 to add some activity to a tank full of Thorichthys helleri and Cryptoheros nanoluteus and they have been amazing! Really active, and tend to stay schooled rather tightly which I enjoy. Highly recommended!

I second that. At the LFS last night i saw one in a 75 with an 16" Arowana, a small Motoro ray, and a group of Tinfoils (horrible stocking, but its a small shop that seems to get a lot of large trade-in animals.). He was the boss of the tank and he was maybe 7" long.

They also had a Jardini, maybe 14" which was cool.
