I will be setting up a tank soon that i would like to put some smaller cichlids that would be ok to be in a community tank among there own kind. The tank is currently being cycled and hope to be able to put some fish in there here soon. the goal of the tank is the most color that i can get and the most variety that i can get. I have been searching for days for different kinds and there are so many kinds that it is really overwhelming. I have been looking into things like malawis, or a demanon type of colors. i am open to all kinds of sugestions.

For a tank that size and your looking for colour and action then go Malawi. A mixed bag of any mbuna look lovely together and are a great way to start out with cichlids.

Here is one of the first tanks I owned . . .

Mainginos have a nice blue color spelling might be off. Mine is on her second batch of fry.

You could put a number different Tanganyikans in a tank that size. A group of shellies, a pair of calvus and a pair of julies would look awesome. I am probably in the minority but I find most Malawi boring. They have nice colors but they don't really do anything interesting.
