I'm planning to move some stock around and due to limited space, I have some 1.5-2" juvy cichlids that I am planning to transfer to a tank filled with several Clown Loaches that vary from 4-10". I know a mouth of a CL is fairly small even for my larger ones and I'm thinking that my small fish should be fine. If the cichlids were another inch, I'd be 100% confident they'd be fine. Any thoughts? This may be rare situation but has anybody ever had issues with their large clown loaches eating some of their smaller stock?

You'll be fine. I have a friend that has a 300 gal with Frontosa ( up to like the 14" alpha male ) and some massive (7-13" or so ) Clown Loaches. Well these Frontosa have fry like crazy due to the hard water and the loaches never touch any of them. So I'm sure you'll be safe! Just my opinion!

Good to know that the Fry are fine but still a little worried that some fry may have been eaten w/o your friend noticing since i'm sure there are hundreds in the tank making it hard to keep track of. Nonetheless, thanks for your inputs Serge...gives me more confidence that I'm fine.

I have 5 clown loaches from roughly 3-6 inches in with HRPs, istlanum, carpintis and neets smaller than them and they are fine. The loaches will hold their own though, especially in a group.

Thanks VRWC....CL's can indeed hold their own! Are any of the fish you keep w/ your CL's under 2" or so?

not right now, but several months ago they were...an istlanum (there were 5 istlanum but this crazy one killed her siblings), 5 HRPs between 1-2 inches and a few carpintis.

Feed your loaches some ramshorns and they'll ignore absolutely everything else in the tank. Mine do! They just love them...

Good to know. Thanks again.

haha nice...hopefully they don't eat my stock!

They won't eat your smaller fish, but depending on how many you have you'll find it hard to get food to the cichlids. I had 30 loaches from 3-8" in my 160g with some altifrons, blue acara and severums, and the loaches were so boisterous at feeding time it was difficult to get any food to the other fish.
