Hey gus! I haven't been on a while. Been busy moving, etc. Some of you might remember the repair I did on a 220 where I replaced the bottom glass because it was almost completely shatered. Well, during my move, my side glass cracked down about 2 inches from the corner, It's above the water line and the crack hasn't breached the surface of the glass. It moved slightly toward the center, but curved back toward the edge. Should I replace it?

I wouldn't trust any cracked glass with water. Especially anything over 100 gll. Why does the tank keep cracking?

I'd just get a new tank. with having to replace the bottom already. Now the side. never know what else got weak from the move .

The guy I bought it from had used to to store coal in. Genius, right? I think that this pane cracked because we must have torqued it while moving it in. Buying a new one is out of the question. a $150 pane of glass and $20 worth of silicone is a lot better than a $700 tank. Plus, the project's 1/2 the fun.

yes i would for sure replace the glass and save the cash just like u said

 :iagree:

If you've got the knowhow or the inclination, go for it!

I pickup 55g tanks with cracked sides and repair them with glass I drill for overflows & returns. Got a 100g coming soon. :grinno:

People seam to be rather quick to spend other peoples money.

Is the crack 'C' shaped?

Going like from the top to the side?

If it has finished its cracking, would a small peice just come off? If so, patch it with a sandwich of glass as a temporary repair, but replace it as soon as you can.

it moves from the corner toward the center, then arches slightly toward the corner again. I'll try to get a pic on here soon. I'm not on-line at home anymore so I'll have to do it at work. Hang with me 'til thursday
