my neighbor gave me a 180 gal acrylic fish tank and i filled it today with water and it holds water but there are 100 or so small cracks/lines within the acrylic on the back side that are within the acrylic and cant be felt from the outside... my question is what caused this? is it repairable? or is it not worth the cost to fix? no camera at the moment so sorry for no pics

cracks on acrylic is like cancer on humans. You can never get rid of it and it will only get worse. If I were you, I would buy some weld-on 3 and put it over every crack I seen. Weld-on 3 will put a chemical bond on the cracks and should keep them from spreading or giving way. Stuff is cheap and would be worth a shot.

is it an actual crack? It could be crazing? From what I've read/been told some crazing can be ok.... but dont know without a pic?

sounds like crazing to me and it's normal in acrylic tanks from what I hear. My 300 has a good bit of crazing. With water in the tanl you can only some of it and only when you look at a certain angle

my camera is still down but i googled crazing and all those pics on are exactly what the cracks on my tank seem to be. but from what you guys are saying its normal and isnt a problem? any long term effects that i should worry about? like the tank cracking and ruining my living room? lol

watch it carefully and make sure it is not muliplying? Otherwise if it stays stable should be ok..... I would also keep an eye on the seems also and make sure you dont see any seperation?

alright will do. i guess for now ill just fill it up with water and leave it in my garage for observation
