What is the max price you would pay for around a 6" cuban? I know it's highly subjective, but i might know of some that might become available soon, but I fear I won't be able to afford one. When's the last time any, especially small ones, have come to the State?

When Solomon and I were arranging our order last year, they were going to be $1,500 for 35 juveniles. We decided to wait until the next season, and by then the farms were catching on and the price was doubled. So buying in bulk was out.

Not sure what I'd pay for a single 6" now that I have one in the 500g... not much.

Huh. I was hoping they'd only be a couple hundred max as csx had some trops for 100 a while ago (got one of those), but looks like they're going to be a lot more than that. That would have been a killer price...even at $3000 not too bad, but that's a lot of money up front.

How'd you end up w/ a Cuban? I haven't been on this forum much lately.

that's about what it's looking like they'll cost (not wholesale price but hobbyist price)

hopefully i'll get more opinions

Cubans are rarer than t-gars in the US (although both are the rarest species here), so they will cost more (usually regardless of size). keep in mind, although we had info on the at-cost price of Cubans, resale would be much more as no one is going to bring in fish and sell them at cost as the time and energy that go into maintaining them is costly...this is the case for LFS, but even moreso for private hobbyists.

there will likely be more to this discussion in the relative near future--

PS - last time small Cubans were brought in (2007), and these were a mere 3-4" fish, i believe the price for resale was $275-$300 each.

Thanks for the input, Sol.

looks like they'll be about 5" and cost $550 resale. I really can't afford one, but I don't see how I can pass up this opportunity.
