hi i have a filter for a 10 gallon and was wondering how i can add some biologicaly filtration to it like could i add some rings in the filter or should i just go out and buy a all new filter?
You can add some bio filtration by putting some ceramic rings in the back of the filter.
If you are needing a lot more filtration, a different/bigger filter would probably make more sense.
go bigger and get a bio wheel filter. bio wheels will hold alot of BB and they still have room for mechanical media in the filter. and if you're looking for more BB then you're prolly running a highly stocked tank. And with a highly stocked tank you're not going to want to give up your mech. media.
I run a Topfin 60 in my 10 gallon...totally overkill....but so is this hobby....lol
I think dropping some ceramic rings behind the pads would work pretty good actually. They will stay in there (hold the bio) when you replace the pads as well - so your not losing everything that way. That's a good idea.
Box of rings is like $9.00 - $10.00. One box should last you a long time.
