Looking at Japes eartheater tanks has anyone put small fish like the rosie tetras in with GTs or JDs? Mine are going into a 240 soon, and a couple large schools of small fish would be very cool. Well as long as they dont end up as food for the larger fish.

Thoughts/Suggestions....

adult jds or gts will eat tetras, adult geos will not

Crud....... That is what I thought. May look into firemouths or Jewel cichlids.

They are large enough to hold their own and should be able add a doz or so without trouble right?

My JD wouldn't bother them but most GT's would.And I'm sure a lot of Jd's would so it comes down to the individual.Def. wouldn't try it with most CAs

You will most likely have trouble with firemouths or jewels when they get larger and breed

Any suggestions of a medium size fish that will work with the CAs ?

How about Bolivian Rams? Size is what I am looking for.

I just dont want to add fish that are just gonna be picked on or eaten.

Are you serious?

Get some SDs and call it a tank...

Sorry not being ignant but.... SDs??? Not up with all the abbvs yet.

SD's = Silver Dollars

You could try a school of giant danios with CA's or if you don't mind mixing fish from different parts of the world, get some generic Rainbow fish. Mine are probably pushing 4" and are fast enough to get away from everything in my big tank.

Tiger barbs are large enough not to get eaten and fast enough to get away. They form schools too. They say that you should keep at least 6 of them so that they feel more secure and less stressed.
