I have a 4 inch blood parrot that recently developed flat white patches on her dorsal fin. Initially it was just one I was slightly concerned she has spots on her fins that are normal coloration. Since her behavior was normal and she is about a year old I wasn't not sure it was not a normal change in coloration that would be normal. That was at least a month ago. Today I noticed a second one nearby the are about the size and appearance of dandruff flake. I looked her really close and I see a few tiny pinhead sized flat patches on her body. It does not look like Ich at all. They are flat and smooth not raised like grains of salt. They almost appear to be embedded under the skin. Her color this week is a little paler peach colored rather than always bright orange.
She has a heater that stays at about 82 degrees, 1 sponge filter and 1 internal filter with cartridges. The tank is a 29 gallon (I have a bigger tank cycling at the moment for her). I do weekly water changes of about 20% that includes vacuuming the sand in her tank, squeezing and rinsing filter media in tank water. I alternate 50% water changes bi-weekly. She is the only fish in the tank and I don't share equipment between fish. She eats really well and acts very normal. Constantly begging, rams the tank lid if she doesn't feel she is getting her due attention. Does this sound like anything you have heard of?
I have at least one suspicion but I want to see what more experienced cichlid keepers think. I will try to post pics. Atm I am getting an error when I turn on my digital camera.
