setting my 40g double stand. I noticed light passing thru the bottom of the tank on both too and bottom. should I be worried and add some thick plywood on the bottom?

If the 4 corners are sitting flat, you will be fine. As long as it does not cause a twisting force. 40 g are small enouph to be pretty forgiving.

Is there plastic trim round the bottom of the tank
yes plastic trim top and bottom tanks

all corners and most of the run looks solid. just that slight gap at center , biggest gap is on the top tank. only noticed it when I was putting the plants in on the bottom.

thanks for the replies guys

15142398777111632242439.jpgI have a butter knife blade thin gap. Just in the center. It is from the steel warping during the welding. This is a 75 gallon two stack. Top tank gap.
The dark lines are zip snips, tucked in to shim. I would use 20 minute epoxy, and lay in a bead under the trim with a 20 cc syringe. If I had a 6 foot long, 200 gallon tank in a new house with OSB sub floors.
I would not worry about it with a short tank.

Hello; If you ever have reason to have the tanks off the stand then lay a straight edge along the stand. As the others have stated the 40 gallon is not likely to cause problems.

You can place a sheet of plywood between a tank and stand. I have done it many times for tanks under 50 gallons. I have learned to coat the plywood with some type of paint.

I agree with S skjl47 and markstrimaran markstrimaran .

You should be able to measure the corners of the tank to determine the height at which they each sit. If they don't agree (e.g., 2 diagonals are lower or only 3 of the 4 agree), you might want to make a change sooner than later.

And very nice tank setup.

thanks for all the responses guys. i will just ride it out for now and just keep and eye on it.

next time I do a deep cleaning tear down i will lay a couple pieces of plywood down, I have a big piece of 3/4 plywood just taking up space in the garage . I had to level the stand out with a piece of tile on the back to legs since the floor in this room is way off from level. checked it to make sure it was level with a bubble leveler so there shouldn't any twisting going on the stand.

thanks for the compliments on the tanks. I'm very happy with this stacked set up, kinda thinking of getting another set of stacked 40g breeders, or maybe stack 75g since I already have the tanks . thanks again for the advice

Hello; On tanks I can pick up by myself I like to make the plywood around three inches longer than the longest direction of the tank. That way about 1 1/2 inches sticks out on each end.. gives me something to grab when I need to carry a tank around.

The plywood also makes a nice shield for the bottom of all glass tanks. That way there is much less chance of breaking the bottom glass if I happen to sit it down on a protrusion.
