so i have a 90 gallon tank with some new florida spotted gar in it, they are just over 3 inches and my water current is pretty fast does this matter? im just wondering if any one knows if small gar like to stay in still water to hunt or if they like to station them selfs in faster flowing water to eat passing fish?

I know that I have seen gar in both moderately moving water and also in a still lake. I don't think they really like much current, but i'm not in the know enough to say it will have detrimental effects on them

ok thanks, and after watching them for an hour or so i realized that they had no real problem swimming directly up the stream my filter was causing, im sure theres nothing wrong with a current. i was just seeing if anyone had any comments..thanks

They tend to like very little current. They are ambush predators, and like to float motionless in the water waiting for prey to wander too close. They do alright with current, just make sure that there are some relatively still spots in the tank for them to relax in.
