I'm curious if anybody has had any experience with young fish that never really grow as large as they should. I've probably had about 10 batches of fry with my two large jags (male is about 13 inches and female is about 8). About a year and a half ago I pulled the largest fry from the spawn and placed it in an extra 29 gallon I had laying around. The baby jag grew great for a few months, I fed it a varied diet of hikari gold and blood worms, and krill. I moved the little guy into a 55 gallon with a jewel cichlid and two bushy nose plecos. From there he never grew again. He became the king of the tank, but still hasn't grown at all. He is now 1 1/2 old and he's probably no bigger then 5 inches. My large breeding pair of jags were huge after the same amount of time. I just don't get it. It's kinda cool having this little jag, but I'm curious if anybody has had similar experiences. I'm going to try and take decent picture and I'll post it.

Anyone have any ideas about it? I would really like to see how common this is.

He could just a runt. Me and my dad have had quite a few Managuese and all reached at least 10 inches some faster some slower but none just stopped growing

Your couple of jags may belong to a previous same batch so imbreeding must be the one to blame, besides who knows if the parents of your couple were also brothers which worsens it all.

I usually have pretty good water quality, and the two parents were from different places. I purchased the female from a different shop. My big male killed the original female I had with him. But I guess you never know. There has to be a reason why he's so small.
