A few days ago my 120 busted a seam, 20+ year old acrylic, and I moved my 5" jar into a 10 gallon, very temporarily, with an established AC HOB filter and rock from the 120 on the bottom. Feeding minimally so no mini-cycle so far. I have a 3K gallon garden pond with <12" koi, goldfish, and fathead minnows that is currently 88F, outside temps have been over 100 pretty much every day for a week, and it's pea soup green from an algae bloom which happens for a month or so every year because I'm not running UV. The pond generally doesn't drop below 78 all summer. Filtration is a 150g rubbermaid tub full of gravel with yellow flag iris and lotuses, water is drawn from the bottom of the pond and pumped into the bottom of the filter, comes up through the gravel and cascades back into the pond. Turnover is only about once per hour and water changes are far less than on my tanks, usually just draining the filter and allowing it to refill a couple times once per week then replacing what I drained and topping off. PH is steady at 7.8, same as my tap water, with no ammonia, nitrites, or nitrates. I put my small megalodoras cat, who was in the 120 also, in the pond and he is doing fine so far but I was more concerned about putting the jardini in.

Should I keep the jar in the 10g or toss him in the pond until the 120 is repaired or replaced? Either way I 'll have the tank repaired or replaced before the temp drops.

I'd be safe and leave him in the tank . How low will the temperature drop at night ? And from my experience my koi use to harass my jardini (in numbers ) but if it's one on one it's a different story . And also that size jardini doesn't get aggressive til maybe like 10 inches and your kois are a bit bigger . Keep him in the 10 for now! Better safe than sorry

Pond temp is pretty stable. Maybe a 2F change daily if there's a dramatic change in ambient temperature. Day to night change in the pond is less than 1F generally. Forgot to put dimensions. pond is 3' deep and 12x12' square with two opposite corners removed, one for a small tree, the other for a walking path.
