Small lump near the stomach

Hi all,

I just noticed a small lump in the left side of my spotted gar near the second row of fins. i never noticed it before but its turning reddish.... my other spotted does not have it. what can it be? bump? over feeding? bruise? i will try to lessen their feeding scheds if it would somehow work. any ideas?

asked my cousin regarding it, he said it was a protruding anus. so i just starved it for roughly 2 days and the swelling got better. hope it doe not happen again.

sometimes they get air pockets in there bellies from feeding at the top of the tank...mine had similar bump just not red and i had to starve him for two weeks so his body would expel the air...then he was fine and now i just feed him minnows so he doesn't feed top of tank anymore.

yeah tried starving him and the lump got significantly smaller. cant really starve him for two weeks because he has two other tankmates. but im controlling their feeding scheds.
