Ok since my loss of my walleyes I'm looking into buying 3 smallies since they are a tad bit cheaper than the walleyes. Just wanna know if anyone has kept both of these species and which one is more aggressive. At the LFS the smallies chase each other a lot and seems aggressive. My LMB also chase each other at times, but the bigger one always dominate and play bully.

Well size for size which species is more aggressive and dominate. Well it's a stupid question but there's not much going on here in this cold water fish forum anyways so thought I might ask.

I smallies fight a lot more when you catch them, thats all i know:) they do seem to be more agressive for some reason.

Smallmouths like cooler well oxygenated water, largemouth are more adapted to low oxygen warm water. Don't know if that helps any but I think it makes largemouths better suited for a home tank, I prefer smallmouths though.

The main reason smallmouths and dont quote me on this is more aggresive is there awful depth perception... they see all moving things larger and smaller than they really are making all things a possible threat... here in KY at caverun lake we have both smallmouth and musky and I have seen and have caught smallmouth on musky lures there size.

Even though we dont have smallies in FL. I have heard they are more aggresive than LMB.

Largemouths are easier to keep in large tanks or ponds but smallies are more active.

Smallies and LMB live in totally different enviroments in some cases too and I think that is why the smallies are more active. Smallies are common in rivers and rivers flow while the LMB prefer a nice calm lake hiding in vegitations. There are different cases though but you get the idea.

Yeah the LFS had a tank with around 15 smallies and those suckas chase each others like crazy so I knew they were aggressive. I was just wondering if I get some smallies the same size as my LMB who would dominate.

???who do you think would dominate considering they are the same size.???

My friend keeps the two in a 200 gallon and has a total of two each mainly the smallies stay to there side and the LMB keep to themselves they dont really fight that much anymore unless the Smallies feel threatened.
