Small mouth bass

They are illegal to keep in the state of Wash w/o a permit. :irked:
 
smallmouths are extremely aggressive, unlike largemouth bass. they need large places to be kept in as they are very active.
 
I've seen them for sale, and always wanted to try, but never pulled the trigger since they like cooler water...
 
i use to have one a couple years ago, when i got him he was about 2 inches long and when i released him he was about 14 inches, he was just getting too agressive towards the other fish. i released him into a pond near the house
 
As soon as I catch one this spring I will let you know how it goes. We have a large, spring fed pond that was made when the state was building a road many years ago. Nobody stocked it, but fish got in there somehow and there are all kinds. I caught a 3in pumpkin fish in July, it is about 6in now and doing great with the other fish I have. I am looking to catch a SMB and throw him in to see how he does.
 
hey pendog, just a heads up. its illegal to cath and keep a fish and then release it again. just to let you know.
