Hi, I've had 2 wild caught baby small mouth bass in a 10 gallon with a divider for about a week. One of them will eat anything I drop in, worms, bring shrimp, pellets ect. But the other one is very skiddish and doesn't eat at all. I saw him approach the food but didn't eat it. Could this be because when I hooked him it punctured his eye? I've heard after catching a fish they don't eat for a while but I'm not sure how true it is.

But he's getting kinda skinny and I need some suggestions on the fish. I have no heater in it since they're used to cold water. Thanks.

The getting skinny is in your head. There is no way that a SMB deprived of food is showing clinical signs within a week. Keep trying the feeds, and supplement here and there with live. Soon enough he will come around.

actually my lmb looks skinny after not eating for a day, but just keep trying it will eat when it gets hungry enough

The fish had a punctured eye? Does it look abnormal?

Actually he is skinny. Its not in my head. But I did get him to eat 1/3 of a pellet after putting in a feeder, which he tried to eat and failed. Then he would take anything I dropped in his mouth. He should be eating pretty well in a few days.

No, only at first it looks like a little bit of string like jelly was coming out but not anymore.

so did punctured eyed smb make it?

Smb have very individual personalities and being injured in capture can make it very skittish and reluctant to eat, also watch for aggression from the other smb, they can get very territorial.

Yeah smb def have individual personalities. I found an isolated pond that i fish at maybe twice a month. I noticed id always catch the same 3 or 4 fish. One is a very dark colored 3ish lb that actually has fought off other smb to hit a minnow at the surface and is aggresive/stupid enough to occasionally be caught twice in one trip. The others like to follow slowly then drop back and rush back in to strike. ive kept a smaller one for my 55gal for a bout 2 months and he did fine right away and ate the next morning. I'm probably gonna release him next week since marching band and sneaker collecting/hunting take up most of my time. Don't worry about the eye smb are very tough fish and it should heal up and it will be back to eating.
