Hello all,

Firstly let me say that this world of monster fish is pretty cool.

I have about a quarter acre pond with a max depth of 5 feet. There are no native fish, but literally thousands of frogs and even more tadpoles. There are at least 6 really big bull frogs (the size that could eat a mouse easily) and a couple water snakes.

I want to stock the pond with Catfish, blugill, minnows and LM Bass, but also wondered if their are some more exotic/aggressive fish that could live in this population and not eat the catfish or bass:-)

Also, wondering if anyone has a arapaima, pirarucu, or paiche. Are they legal to posses in the US?

The thing about a pond vs a tank is that a pond does not afford you a good view of exotic fish. If anyone has other suggestion as to how to stock this pond that would be enjoyable I would welcome your advice!

Thanks

Welcome to Mfk... You can get alot of information if you go to forums DIY projects, Setup& Filtration, Pond{indoor and outdoor} forums... so many people are in the process or have already accomplished building some beautiful ponds... ideas all over the place and ask questions.... good luck and when you can share your pond with us..

Your outdoor pond will not hold any of the described fish, none will survive through winter, sorry man and holding them in tanks for winter would be impossible as you would need at least a 2,000 gallon tank once they are sub adults. Just stick with natives.

Am I not in ya'lls league just wanting to have Bass? Is there a better place to post this question?

From everything I have read in Virginia you stock Bass, Bluegill, Fathead Minnows and Catfish and all live through the winter. Is that not accurate? My pond is 4 ft in some places.
