Small Oak Refurb

So, a small oak cabinet and hood refurb. It had been varnished but the varnish had worn off in places, warped in others and developed mold inside the cabinet.





A few days of sanding and several coats of Danish oil later... coupled with some new furnishings...





What do you all think?

Is Danish oil going to give you the protection you need? I often use a mix of 1/3 oil, 1/3 spar varnish and 1/2 turpentine to enhance the water resistance of the oil finish. I usually use tung oil or boiled linseed oil... which are usually the base in most Danish oils. The turpentine is just a thinner that will evaporate away. The spar varnish is what gives the finish the extra protection properties.

I can see that you know and like your wood work! Some great tips. I've been very impressed with the protection of Danish oil in the past, I have it on my dining room table and have no wear or water marks still. Although 3 good coats on a well prepared surface is essential.
