Im setting up a 55g community/catfish tank. will be unheated and temp will range between 70-75*
tank is being set up specifically to house Madtom catfish but im also looking at:
S.A. Bumble bee catfish
dojo loaches
black banded sunfish
stripped and spotted Raphael
brown hoplo cat.

any mid, top water catfish in this temp range?

Spotted raph would be a good one to house in there. Madtoms have very large mouths for their size. Make aure whatever you house is large enough not to be eaten. Although it may take many years stripped raph may get a litle large for what you are doing here. You can do a size search on planet catfish and come up with a huge variety. After you narrow it down choose a few you like and ask other's expirience with those. There are so many small catfish it is tough for me to make any recomendations. I do like your idea of spotted raph though. Very peaceful but likely you will never see it during the day.

I always see mine, they put their heads into the driftwood and the other 95% of them stick out. "hiding"

Just so you know, if you are talking about the only kind of madtoms that I know of (from north america) they are a colderwater catfish. Not saying you can't mix them with tropicals but make sure to keep your temperature at the lower end of the tropical side (72-75F) like you said. Striped or spotted raphaels prefer the warmer water but would still be fine as long as there is not a significant size difference between it and the madtom. You could also do a larger coolwater corydoras.
