I am a beginner and i have a few questions. I can find peacock bass in little lakes and ponds all over where I live (Miami). I fish all over and can find peacock bass or all sizes, from about 2 inches to fish that can weigh 4 or 5 pounds. I want to start with the smallest I can find. Now my question is can take this wild peacock bass and put it in a tack successfully? Also what can I feed such a small peacock bass or should I start with something a little bit larger?
If you do take a smaller one, I would do this.
1. Take a few, like 3-5 just in case a few die, if you have extra you can just dispose of them(don't release back in lake,etc.).
2. Tank should be cycled already of course.
3.Since their wild caught(most are more stressed then the regular ole captive bred fish) I would keep the lights off for a whole week so they don't feel frightened.
4. They might eat, then again they might not. Even captive bred fish when first brought home will not eat sometimes. Just give them a few days and see if they are interested, if not then close the lid and turn the light off and let them be until the next day.
Their cichlids so any ole cichlid pellets will work. Try a sinking so they will see it pass their eyes when you drop it on. If they don't eat any pellets within a week try some bloodworm cubes.
I agree get a smaller one if possible, what's the fun in getting a 10 inch one when you can grow a small one to that size.
